What Is Mount Rushmore

Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a large sculpture carved into the granite face of Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills region of South Dakota.

The Mount Rushmore Memorial was Completed in 1941 under the direction of Gutzon Borglum and his son Lincoln. It took about 14 years to carve Mount Rushmore. The carving began in 1927 and stopped in 1941

Who Are The Faces In Mount Rushmore

The four faces carved onto Mount Rushmore are those of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt.

Theodore Roosevelt was chosen because he was such an influential president and world leader. These men were chosen because all four played important roles in American history.

During my visit to South Dakota in 2012, I was fortunate enough to make a visit to see the Crazy Horse Memorial and also to see this magnificent view of Mount Rushmore in person.
